Cinemax Renews 'Warrior'

By Midnight, in Renewals,

The martial arts drama will return for Season 2.
Cinemax announced today that Warrior has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes just three episodes into the action drama's run, which has so far been garnering a generally positive reception from both viewers and critics.
Based on an original concept by martial arts legend Bruce Lee, Warrior follows Ah Sahm, a young martial arts prodigy in the 1870s who immigrates to San Francisco from China under mysterious circumstances after the Civil War. Once there, he becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown's most powerful and feared organized crime families.
Look for Season 2 of Warrior in 2020.

The comedy earns its first pickup at Fox.
Fox announced today that Last Man Standing will be returning for an eighth season. The good news, which comes on the eve of its 150th episode, marks the comedy's first renewal at its new network.
The Tim Allen series was cancelled back in 2017 after six seasons at its original home on ABC. It took some time, but a year later Fox decided to revive the show for the 2018-2019 season. The move has been paying off for the network, as since its return Last Man Standing has been garnering healthy ratings on Friday nights, currently ranking as Fox's third-best scripted original in Live+7 viewing.
Last Man Standing follows Mike Baxter, a man's man who works as a marketing director for a sporting goods store. But while he may be the king of the hill at work, he's the odd man out at his female-dominated household.
Look for Season 8 of Last Man Standing in the mid-season of 2019-2020 season.

No Season 3 for the Marvel drama.
Word is out this evening that Fox has cancelled The Gifted after two seasons. The mutant drama, which concluded its sophomore run earlier this year, is the latest Marvel-based series to get the axe.
The show premiered in 2017 and had a fairly strong debut outing. Reviews were generally positive and ratings were solid enough for it to rank as the #3 new drama of that season. And while critical reception remained strong in Season 2, ratings did slip considerably compared to what it brought in for Season 1. Combine that with the fact that Marvel-based fare has been dropping like flies in recent months, and today's cancellation did not come as a complete surprise.
Set in Marvel's X-Men universe, The Gifted follows a family who learns that their kids possess mutant powers. And though the father is a district attorney, he is forced to take his family on the run from a hostile government and join up with an underground network of mutants in a fight to survive.

NBC Renews 'Manifest'

By Midnight, in Renewals,

The mystery drama will return for Season 2.
NBC announced today that Manifest will be coming back for a second season. The good news arrives two months following the drama's freshman run, and will surely come as a relief to fans curious to get to the bottom of the show's over-arching mystery.
The hour-long series premiered last September as one of the fall's hottest shows. Through its first four weeks on the air, Manifest ranked as the season's most-watched and highest-rated new series. That strong momentum could not be sustained for the entirety of its run though, as its numbers came down to earth for the back-half of the season.
Manifest follows the passengers and crew of Montego Air Flight 828, which recently landed safely after being reported missing five years ago. To those aboard, though, it was just a typical flight with a bit of turbulence. With the returned passengers and crew back home, they now face a new reality with a second chance. But a deeper mystery starts to unfold as some of the returned realize they could be meant for something greater.
Look for Season 2 of Manifest this fall as part of the 2019-2020 television season.

The cop drama will reach a decade on the air in 2020.
CBS announced today that Blue Bloods has been picked up for a tenth season. The news comes with four episodes remaining in the police drama's current season, and coincides with star Tom Selleck signing a one-year deal to stay on with the show for 2019-2020.
The veteran series has been a Friday night staple on the network, where year after year it continues to garner consistently-healthy ratings that best its time slot competition. Its impressively-long run will hit 199 episodes at the end of Season 9, with its forthcoming fall premiere reserved for its milestone 200th.
Blue Bloods follows the Police Commissioner of New York, who runs his department in the same diplomatic manner he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his father during his stint as Chief.

Based on DC Comics' Vertigo comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher follows a conflicted, small-town Texas preacher who is accidentally possessed by a supernatural entity that causes him to develop a highly unconventional power allowing him to command others to do as he says. Joined by his ex-girlfriend and an Irish vagabond, he sets out on a journey to literally find God.

The streaming comedy will end with an 8-episode run.
It is being reported that Hulu has renewed Future Man for a third and final season. The move comes three months after the comedy's sophomore release on the streaming service.
The decision to end the series comes just one day after Preacher announced the upcoming end to its run. Both shows are co-executive produced by Seth Rogen who just last week, along with Evan Goldberg, moved their content deal from Sony TV to Lionsgate.
Future Man follows a despondent janitor who typically spends his nights playing video games. That is until his ordinary life is turned upside down when mysterious visitors recruit him for a mission to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity and save the planet earth.
Eight episodes have been ordered for Season 3, making the final season its shortest to-date. No time frame has been set for its return.

The medical drama will continue in 2019-2020.
Fox announced today that The Resident will be returning for a third season. The good news comes near the end of the medical drama's sophomore run, which has five episodes remaining including tonight's airing.
The series premiered early last year as a mid-season entry with a 14-episode run. After a strong showing, Fox moved it into its regular fall lineup for the 2018-2019 season. After another solid start in the fall, the network topped up its sophomore run to a full season of 22 episodes.
The Resident stars Matt Czuchry as a senior resident and Emily VanCamp as a nurse practitioner at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. The series brings to light the hard truths about modern-day medicine - both good and bad. Some lives are saved while others are lost, but expectations are always be shattered.
Look for Season 3 of The Resident this fall.

The long-running drama will say good-bye in 2020.
It was announced today that Supernatural will be coming to an end after its already-ordered 15th season. The news, which was posted on social media by some of its stars, comes two months after the veteran drama's most-recent renewal and will bring an end to one of television's longest-running series.
Originally premiering on the now-defunct WB Network in 2005, Supernatural has impressively amassed over 300 episodes and boasts one of television's most-loyal fanbases. Throughout its time on the air, the show has always been one of The CW's top-rated series - even to this day.
20 episodes have been ordered for the final season of Supernatural. That number matches the total of its current 14th season, which is its shortest in over a decade. Look for a premiere this fall.

The fantasy drama will continue with a new showrunner.
Starz announced today that American Gods has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes just days after the fantasy drama's long-awaited sophomore premiere, which returned nearly two years after Season 1 first premiered.
Adapted from the 2001 Neil Gaiman novel, American Gods follows ex-con and widower Shadow Moon, who has his life turned upside down not long after being released from prison. He meets a charismatic con man named Mr. Wednesday, who is actually an incarnation of the God Odin and looking to confront the new Gods, who have been growing stronger. Together, Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon begin a journey across America in an attempt to build an army of Old Gods that will battle for power against the New Gods.
A new showrunner is being brought in for Season 3. Charles "Chic" Eglee will be at the helm going forward, with hopes that the wait for the next season will perhaps be a little shorter this time around.
Look for Season 3 of American Gods hopefully in 2020.
