Charmed follows sisters Mel and Maggie, whose worlds were shattered after the death of their mother. The CW announced today that The Flash has been renewed for a sixth season. The action drama continues to be one of the network's strongest-performing series, with ratings that consistently top its fellow superhero-based entries.

Currently in its fifth season, the series recently surpassed the 100-episode milestone - an impressive feat for a superhero-based TV show. Though fellow veteran Arrow, which premiered two years before The Flash, is just days away from reaching episode 150.

The CW announced today that DC's Legends of Tomorrow has been renewed for a fifth season. The superhero drama, which has continued to be a reliable and steady performer for the network on Monday nights, is currently in a mid-season break with the second-half of Season 4 returning in April.

Premiering in 2016 as an ensemble series featuring characters spun-off from Arrow and The Flash, the show takes place in the same shared DC Comics universe but with a time travel twist. Showtime announced today during their TCA presentation that Shameless has been renewed for a tenth season. The pickup, which comes in the midst of Season 9, extends the cable drama's already-impressive run, which recently surpassed the 100-episode milestone.

Though after eight years on the air, its typically-consistent audience numbers could be showing signs of weakening. William H. Macy stars in Shameless as a deadbeat alcoholic father of six children. He survives by relying on unlawful schemes while leaving his kids to fend for themselves. Long-time regular cast member Emmy Rossum will be leaving the series after Season 9, though the rest of the cast will be staying on.

CBS announced today that FBI has been renewed for a second season. The early pickup comes in the midst of the procedural drama's freshman run.

WGN America announced today that Carter has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes three months after the Canadian-produced crime dramedy concluded its 10-episode freshman run on the cable network.

The hour-long series stars Jerry O'Connell as Harley Carter, an actor who became famous as a teenager after solving the mystery of a serial killer in his small town. Now he makes his living in Hollywood playing a grown-up version of what he was as a kid - but it's getting old. After experiencing an embarrassing public meltdown, Harley returns to his home town but finds that he can't leave solving mysteries behind. Utilizing his acting experience, Carter becomes a real-life detective and partners with a police veteran and a street-smart coffee truck owner.

Syfy announced today that The Magicians has been renewed for a fifth season. The good news comes on the eve of the fantasy's drama's Season 4 premiere, which kicks off tomorrow at 9:00pm picking up from last spring, with the heroes unsure of who they are and being sought by the monster.

Adapted from the Lev Grossman novel trilogy of the same name, The Magicians follows a graduate student who enrolls at a magical college only to discover that the fantasy world from popular children's books is actually based in truth and poses a danger to his world.

Today's early pickup ensures there is plenty more of The Magicians for fans to look forward to. Season 4's 13-episodes will run through to spring, while Season 5 will likely return in early 2020 with another expected, though not confirmed, 13 episodes.

Showtime announced today that Ray Donovan has been renewed for a seventh season. The long-running drama continues to be a solid performer and one of the cable network's more popular original series despite getting on in age.

The series stars Liev Schreiber as the titular character, who does the dirty work for some of Los Angeles' most-powerful figures. As their go-to guy, he makes the problems of the city's elite celebrities, athletes, and businessmen disappear.

Syfy announced today that Van Helsing has been picked up for a fourth season. The good news comes with two episodes remaining in the vampire hunting drama's third season, which will conclude just before the new year on December 28.

The cable network has ordered another 13 episodes for Season 4, matching the length of each of the show's first three seasons. Jonathan Walker, who writes and executive-produces the series, will take over as showrunner going forward, replacing Neil LaBute.

Epix announced today that Get Shorty will be returning for a third season. The good news comes two months after the dramedy's sophomore run, which once again made a good impression on critics and audiences alike.

Based on Elmore Leonard's best-selling 1990 novel of the same name, Get Shorty follows Miles Daly, who works as the muscle for a Nevada crime ring. Wanting to broaden his horizons in an attempt win back his wife and daughter, he changes professions by becoming a movie producer with the help of a washed-up filmmaker.

The cable network has ordered seven episodes of Get Shorty for Season 3, which is down from the 10 it received in Seasons 1 and 2. Look for a return in 2019.

AMC has announced that Preacher will be returning for a fourth season. The good news comes three months after the comic book-adapted drama's third season finale. While its viewership levels aren't what they once were - Season 3 averaged roughly half of what it drew in Season 1 - the show continues to garner praise from critics and its core fan base for its focused storylines and mix of fun and chaotic violence.

Based on DC Comics' Vertigo comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher follows a conflicted, small-town Texas preacher who is accidentally possessed by a supernatural entity that causes him to develop a highly unconventional power allowing him to command others to do as he says. Joined by his ex-girlfriend and an Irish vagabond, he sets out on a journey to literally find God.

Production on Season 4 of Preacher is scheduled to begin in early 2019 in Australia, with a likely return around May or June.

ABC announced today that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been given an early pickup for a seventh season. The good news comes just six months after the drama was renewed for Season 6, which itself isn't due to air until 2019.

The veteran series premiered in 2013 and is the longest-running show set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At over 100 episodes, its lengthy run has been impressive and looks to continue for at least the next couple of years. Like most shows of this age, its current ratings leave a lot to be desired, but its core audience still tunes in in decent enough numbers to keep it going in its Friday night time slot, where it moved last season from its regular Tuesday spot.

The network has ordered 13 episodes for Season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., matching its Season 6 order. The new shortened run format is down considerably from the 22 episodes the show aired in Seasons 1 through 5.

Showtime announced today that Penny Dreadful is heading back to TV in the form of a follow-up series called Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. The new installment will be set in 1938 and will usher in the story's next chapter with a newfound focus on social consciousness and historical awareness.

The original series premiered in 2014 and went on to air a total of three seasons on the cable network. Its sudden cancellation in the summer of 2016 took many fans by surprise when it was announced following its third-season finale. After a major character death during the 2-part conclusion, the words "The End" appeared on-screen to the shock of many.

Production on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set to kick off in 2019. The series will act as a spiritual descendant of its mother show with an all-new cast of characters in 1930s Los Angeles, which is filled with Mexican-American folklore and social tension rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the Devil.

CBS All Access announced today that Strange Angel has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes six weeks after the conclusion of the historical period drama's 10-episode summer run, which garnered generally favorable reviews from critics.

The series premiered on the streaming service in June as its third original scripted drama. It is, though, its first without roots in any previous series; The Good Fight is a spin-off of The GoodWife and Star Trek: Discovery is the latest entry in the storied Star Trek franchise.

Based on George Pendle's book of the same name, StrangeAngel follows the real-life story of Jack Parsons, a brilliant blue-collar worker in 1930s Los Angeles who began as a janitor at a chemical factory but had fantastical dreams that led him to birth the unknown discipline of American rocketry. Along the way, he fell into a mysterious world where he become a disciple of occultist Aleister Crowley, whose teachings of self-actualization supported Parsons' unprecedented endeavor to the stars.

One week after its freshman finale, The Outpost has been renewed for Season 2. The fantasy adventure drama debuted this summer with little buzz, airing 10 episodes that garnered mixed reviews.

The series follows Talon, a Blackblood whose whole village was destroyed by a gang of mercenaries years ago. Now the only remaining member of her race, she travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of civilization looking for her family's killer. On her way to the outpost, Talon learns that she possesses a supernatural power that she must harness in order to save herself and defend the world against a radical religious dictator.

It's official: Designated Survivor will be returning for a third season. The cancelled political drama has been revived by Netflix with a 10-episode order for next year. The surprise announcement comes after a prolonged negotiation effort between the streaming service and the show's Canadian-based production company, Entertainment One.

The Kiefer Sutherland-led series premiered in 2016 on ABC and was one of the network's best-performing new entries of the season, attracting a healthy audience and even picking up a Critics' Choice award. The initial interest didn't last long, though, as its numbers dipped in Season 2 after the show's main plot wrapped up. The decline in viewership resulted in its eventual cancellation back in May.

When the series returns on Netflix in 2019, look for the plot to pick up where it left off, with President Kirkman campaigning for re-election. Along with Sutherland, key cast members Italia Ricci, Kal Penn, and Adan Canto are also set to return. One notable change going forward will be another new showrunner - its fifth overall. Designated Survivor is Sutherland's first return as a lead in a TV series since his career-reviving role as Jack Bauer in Fox's 24franchise. In the show he plays a Cabinet member who is unexpectedly thrust into the role of President of the United States after a bombing at the Capitol kills a number of key government figures. After being sworn in as President, he starts to learn that the catastrophic attack was only the beginning of a much larger plan.

History announced this week that Knightfall has been renewed for a second season. The freshman series, which premiered last December, is one of two original dramas currently in the cable network's lineup.

The show's 10-episode debut run drew a solid audience, reaching 25 million total viewers (Live+7), ranking it as the season's #3 new cable drama among total viewers. While overall reviews were mixed, it did pick up a Saturn Award nomination in the category of Best Fantasy Television Series.

Knightfall follows the Knights Templar - a powerful and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages entrusted to protect Christianity's precious relics. Taking place years after the fall of the city of Acre, the last stronghold in the Holy Land, a clue emerges suggesting the whereabouts of the lost Holy Grail. This sends the Templars on a dangerous mission to find the lost Cup of Christ.

Joining the cast for Season 2 will be Mark Hamill, who is set to play a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades tasked to train the new initiates to the Order. A new showrunner, Aaron Helbing, has also come aboard as an executive producer.

Hulu announced today that Castle Rock has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes midway through the show's freshman run, which premiered last month with new episodes currently streaming every Wednesday.

The psychological horror drama is the latest original series in the streamer's lineup and has been faring well since its launch. Critics have praised its storytelling and well-rounded cast, and Hulu says that the show's July 25 debut ranks as its most-consumed original premiere ever.

Based on various characters and settings from Stephen King's novels, Castle Rock combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of the author's works, weaving together a saga of light and darkness that plays out in the Maine town of Castle Rock. FX confirmed today that Fargo will be returning for a fourth season. And while fans of the critically-acclaimed drama will surely be happy with the news of its return, they may not be too happy with the wait involved until it comes back.

The cable network has given a fall 2019 time frame for when production will likely begin, which means a 2020 premiere is probable. Season 3 aired last spring, so that will be at least three years in between seasons.

Some new information on Season 4 has been unveiled, the biggest of which is that Chris Rock has been cast in a lead role as the head of a crime family. The setting will be Kansas City, Missouri in the year 1950, as two families - Italians migrating from Italy and African Americans fleeing the south - collide, with each fighting for a piece of the American dream.

FX has confirmed that a tenth season has been ordered for American Horror Story. The pickup is an early one, as the anthology series - already renewed through Season 9 - has yet to return for Season 8.

Co-created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, the veteran series continues to captivate audiences, though some installments have been met with decidedly mixed reviews. Still, the franchise remains one of the cable network's top performers and is usually in the conversation come awards season.

Production is currently underway on Season 8 of American Horror Story, which is slated to premiere on September 12. Titled Apocalypse, the upcoming season will feature a crossover of past installments Murder House and Coven.

The show is expected to keep its one-season-per-year schedule going forward, with Season 9 expected in 2019 and Season 10 in 2020.
