DESCRIPTION:Today\, woodwork conservator Will Kirk is presented with aki
tchen curiosity and\, without doubt\, a first for the barn. The coconut scr
aper has been in Fausta's family for over 100years and was used daily to e
xtract the white flesh from insidea coconut shell. Fausta grew up in Tamil
Nadu\, India\, wherecoconut is used in much of the cuisine. The task of p
reparingthe coconut often fell to a young Fausta. She prides herself onher
speedy scraping skills! The low wooden stool is fitted witha sharp metal
tool on its side so that the user can sit astridethe tool whilst scraping
out the shells. Fausta now lives inthe UK but continues to cook many of th
e region's coconut-baseddishes\, and having brought it back from a recent
trip to visitfamily\, would like to put it to good use again. However\, th
ewooden section that holds the metal tool has crumbled and thetool itself
is blunt and rusted. Will does a wonderful job ofcreating an insert to fil
l the lost wood and works wonders withwood glue and some clever clamping t
o ensure it can serve auseful purpose once again.Sue from Somerset deliver
s her latefather's wedding ring to goldsmith Richard Talman\, hoping hecan
give it a new lease of life. The gold signet wedding ringwas worn every d
ay of Charles's 64-year marriage to his belovedwife\, Valerie\, but not lo
ng after Valerie died\, the ring wasmisplaced\, causing everyone much conc
ern. The ring wasrecently discovered but sadly after Charles had passed aw
ay.Sue knows it would bring her family much comfort to have itsmartened up
again as a symbol of her parents' love. Richardpulls out all the stops wi
th this treasure and enlists engraverSam Marsden to carefully reinstate Ch
arles's initials.Andthere's more metal magic in the barn when a music stan
d arriveswith proud owner Will. The folding stand was gifted to Will byhis
biggest fan\, his father. Will started playing the cornetat school as a t
eenager\, finding solace in music during thetricky teenage years and went
on to be awarded a scholarship tostudy music. He has performed in many pre
stigious venues andnow teaches music for a living. He feels he owes it all
to hisdad\, who would move mountains to support him. He lost thisspecial
man when he was just 21\, so the stand holds hugesignificance to him. Expe
rt Brenton West rids it of rust andgets all the seized-up sections moving
again\, while Suziecreates a new leather strap to finish it off nicely.
