DESCRIPTION:Art Conservator Lucia Scalisi is fascinated by an unusualrel
igious artefact. It's a three-dimensional portrait depictingthe three aspe
cts of a Hindu God – Brahma\, Vishnu and Shiva. Each Goddess is revealed
when the portrait is viewed fromdifferent angles. It was made by owner Raj
's grandfather overone hundred years ago for his daughter\, Raj's mother\,
who wasa devout Hindu. The portrait was displayed in her house shrinewher
e she would sit for her daily prayers and reminds Raj ofhis much-missed mo
ther. However\, the sacred images are fadedand masked by years of cobwebs
and dust which have accumulatedwithin the boxed frame. Lucia is impressed
by the portrait'sclever construction\, as she meticulously cleans and repa
irsthis unique piece of family history.Next to arrive is Aislingwith a bro
ken silver locket that was a gift from her lategrandparents. The locket ha
s brought her much comfort\, and shehas worn it almost every day. She was
devastated when the frontside of the decorative casing detached and was lo
st without atrace. She would love to wear it again and replace the picture
sof her dear grandparents inside. Goldsmith Richard Talmancrafts a new fro
nt casing and hinge for the locket and enliststhe help of talented engrave
r Sam Marsden to replicate theintricate lattice design.Finally\, optical e
xpert Richard Biggsis eager to get to work on a pair of vintage binoculars
. Theywere a gift from Erica's father\, and together they would takethem o
ut birdwatching in rural Devon. These scuffed and dirtybinoculars represen
t a childhood of adventure and a doting dad.Erica still remembers the exci
tement of spotting her firstkingfisher on the Teign Estuary and her love f
or birds hasnever ceased. Her wish is to use them again in her with hergra
ndchildren. Richard has a job getting the prisms out but isdetermined to r
eturn them to her in full working order.
