  1. Less than a month after cancelling the Roseanne revival, ABC has confirmed that a spin-off featuring the rest of the cast will take its place this fall in the 8:00pm Tuesday time slot. The move had been expected for some time, as the network was looking for a way to continue the success of the Roseannecomeback, which impressively became the top comedy on television.

Expected to be called The Conners, the new series will take place following "a sudden turn of events" that will explain the removal of Roseanne from the show. The rest of the family will continue to tackle daily working-class life in Lanford - only in a completely new way.

Expect the feel of the new show to remain mostly the same, as the existing writing and producing team will also transition over to The Conners. ABC has ordered 10 episodes of the show, which is down from the 13 episodes ordered for Season 2 of Roseanne. Look for the premiere later this year.

  2. It's a sad day for the #Clockblockers out there, as NBC has once again cancelled Timeless. The move marks the second straight year that the network has pulled the plug on the series, only this time there will be no reversal of its decision.

Fans of the action drama had been holding out hope since last month's finale that a third season may be in the cards. And like last year, the show ended on another major cliffhanger that might not ever be resolved. I say 'might' because there have reportedly been discussions between NBC and the show's producers about a possible two-hour movie that would properly conclude the story and give fans the closure they undoubtedly would appreciate. Talks are still ongoing, but the likelihood of it actually happening is unknown.

Timeless premiered in 2016 with a good amount of momentum behind it. Created by two veteran producers, the series was given a high profile time slot on Monday nights along with heavy promotion. While it was well-received by critics, a solid start in the ratings was not long-lasting, and ratings slipped over the course of its run leaving only a limited audience who kept tuning in. And while NBC eventually decided to bring the show back for a second season, its numbers only got worse this time around.

Timeless follows a team of time travelers who were chasing down a mysterious criminal intent on changing the past in order to destroy America. The team works to keep up with the dangerous fugitive to stop his path of destruction, while being careful not to let their actions adversely affect the past.

  3. AMC announced today that The Terror will be returning for a second season. The good news follows a solid debut outing this past spring that garnered critical acclaim and healthy viewership.

The show is the cable network's first to follow an anthology format, where each new season focuses on a contained story in a new setting with a different cast. While its first season followed the perilous voyage of the British Royal Navy in the 1800s, Season 2 will take place during World War II, this time following a mysterious specter that terrorize a Japanese-American community from its home in Southern California to the internment camps to the war in the Pacific.

AMC has ordered another 10 episodes for Season 2 of The Terror, which will return in 2019.

  4. Lucifer fans can rejoice today, as Netflix has reportedly picked up the drama for a fourth season. The move continues the recent trend of revivals, proving that in the 2018 television landscape, the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" is more true than ever.

Originally cancelled by Fox a month ago, just days before its Season 3 finale, Lucifer quickly became a prime contender for revival after a strong outpouring of fan support. A #SaveLucifer campaign quickly gained traction online as other popular recently-cancelled shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Expanse found homes on new networks. Lucifer's producer, Warner Bros. Television, immediately made it known that they were shopping the series around to other outlets. Now one month later, they have reached a deal with the streaming giant that will see the show move online from its home on broadcast TV.

Based on a character from DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, the hour-long series follows Lucifer Morningstar, who has retired to Los Angeles from his duties as The Devil to indulge in a more carefree lifestyle. That is, until, he finds a new purpose in life and starts working alongside a homicide detective to solve crime and dispense justice.

  5. Freeform announced this evening that Shadowhunters will conclude after its current third season. The sad news comes midway through Season 3, which is slated to return with its remaining episodes next spring.

Part of the announcement also included a small silver lining in the form of a confirmed two-episode finale special. It is not clear if this will be part of the 12 episodes still left in the show's existing 22-episode order, or if it will air in addition to that. Either way, this gives the show's writers an opportunity to craft a proper ending to the series.

Based on Cassandra Clare's best-selling The Mortal Instrumentsbooks, the series follows a young girl who learns that she comes from a long line of human-angel hybrids known as Shadowhunters. After her mother is kidnapped, she becomes immersed in the world of demon hunting as she begins a journey of self-discovery in a new world filled with faeries, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves.

Look for the final episodes of Shadowhunters to begin airing in the spring of 2019.

  6. TV Land announced today that Younger has been renewed for a sixth season. The good news comes on the eve of the Season 5 premiere, ensuring at least one more year on the air for the veteran dramedy.

The half-hour series stars Sutton Foster as Liza, a 40-year-old single mother who pretends to be in her 20's after struggling to get back into the working world. Her lie helps her land a job at a publishing firm, but it also starts to complicate matters in her personal life.

Look for Season 6 of Younger in mid-2019.

  7. FX announced today that Legion has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes with two episodes remaining in the superhero drama's sophomore run, which comes to a close on June 12.

Legion is one the latest Marvel Comics-based entries on television and was the first of its kind on a cable network, after other Marvel-based fare found success in recent years on both broadcast TV and Netflix. While its viewership took a hit in Season 2, the show continued to garner widespread critical acclaim for its unique take on the genre.

The series follows a man diagnosed with schizophrenia who comes to realize that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him actually being a mutant. Now working with a team of specialists, he is able to explore an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

Look for Season 3 of Legion in 2019.

  8. Racist tweets bring an end to comedy's biggest comeback.

Just two months after picking up Roseanne for an 11th season, ABC has reversed the move. The cancellation comes after show star Roseanne Barr took to Twitter with a series of racist and anti-semitic posts. The most offending being a now-deleted tweet calling adviser to former President Barack Obama, Valerie Jarrett, an offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

The backlash that followed was immediate and intense, with numerous celebrities and pundits speaking out against her remarks. Barr subsequently apologized, calling the tweet a joke, but it was too late. The damage had been done.

Comedian Wanda Sykes was the first person involved with the show to make a move, announcing her departure from writing on Season 2 this morning. But that was just the beginning, as mere hours later, ABC Entertainment chief Channing Dungey announced that the network was cancelling the show due to her "abhorrent, repugnant" words that were "inconsistent with our values."

The decision was obviously not made lightly, as Roseanne's comeback was the biggest success story ever for a revived series. The show's Season 10 premiere in March surpassed all expectations by drawing a massive audience of 18 million viewers with an impressive 5.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Those numbers are almost unheard of nowadays, especially for broadcast comedies.

But now instead of going on another likely-lengthy run, Roseanne's revival ends after just nine episodes, with the now-series finale airing one week ago.

  9. Fans of The Expanse can breathe a sigh of relief tonight, as Amazon has saved the critically-acclaimed space opera from cancellation. While rumored for a few days now, the official announcement came tonight directly from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos at the National Space Society's International Space Development Conference in Los Angeles.

The outpouring from fans was quite substantial after they got wind that Syfy was passing on a fourth season of their favorite show. A #SaveTheExpanse campaign quickly gained momentum, including an online petition with over 130,000 signatures and a GoFundMe page which paid for an airplane banner that was flown over Amazon Studios in Santa Monica.

While revivals are still not overly common, the list of shows being brought back is growing at a rate never seen before. The speed of the decisions is also faster than ever. The Expansetook only two weeks to be saved, while earlier this month NBC revived comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine just one day after it was cancelled by Fox.

Season 3 of The Expanse on Syfy is just about half-way through its run, with the finale set for late June.

  10. It looks as if the end of Homeland is near. In an interview with Howard Stern earlier today, star Claire Danes appeared to confirm that the long-running drama will indeed not continue past next season - the show's eighth.

Stern was first to bring up the fact that Homeland would be coming to a close next  year, and Danes concurred, responding simply with, "yeah, that's it." The news doesn't come as a complete surprise, as showrunner Alex Gansa has gone on the record in the past about likely wrapping things up in Season 8.

The series was last picked up in 2016, when two additional seasons were ordered at the same time as part of an overall deal with Fox 21 TV Studios. While Showtime has not officially commented on the show's future, it appears in all likelihood that Season 8 will be its final act.

  11. Hulu announced today that Future Man has been renewed for Season 2. The series is the streaming service's first original comedy in over two years, releasing this past November for a 13-episode run.

Co-produced by Seth Rogen, Future Man follows a despondent janitor who typically spends his nights playing video games. That is until his ordinary life is turned upside down when mysterious visitors recruit him for a mission to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity and save the planet earth.

Another 13 episodes have been ordered for Season 2, though no return date has been announced as of yet.

  12. Netflix confirmed today that the upcoming sixth and final season of House of Cards will be going ahead without any involvement from Kevin Spacey. The already-ordered season appeared to be in jeopardy after its star had allegations of sexual misconduct levied against him, resulting in a suspension of production in late October.

With Spacey now removed from the veteran political drama, the final eight-episode season will proceed with Robin Wright in the lead - but it may be some time before its release. Production is not set to begin until sometime in 2018, which could mean a premiere either late in the year or even in 2019.

Premiering in 2013, House of Cards was the streaming service's first-ever original series, going on to garner heaps of critical acclaim and accolades for its strong performances and engrossing storytelling. While the series will be ending on a somewhat sour note, the final episodes will at least be able to give some closure to fans who stuck around from the beginning.

  13. CBS today extended the first season of S.W.A.T., ordering seven additional episodes to bring its total up to 20 - good enough to be considered a full season. The move makes S.W.A.T. the network's second rookie drama of the 2017-2018 season to get a full season top-up.

Shemar Moore stars in the Los Angeles-based series, which follows a former Marine tasked with running a specialized tactical unit that acts as the city's last stop in law enforcement. Raised on the streets, he is torn between his loyalty to his roots and his allegiance to his new brothers in blue as he works to bridge the divide between his two worlds.

Premiering earlier this month as a late entry to the fall lineup, S.W.A.T. is off to a decent start through three episodes. While not a ratings standout, it has kept up with its competition in the 10:00pm time slot on Thursday nights.

  14. NBC released its mid-season schedule today and it's not good news for The Brave. The freshman military drama is nowhere to be found in the line-up, meaning the network did not order any additional episodes for the show's first season.

The hour-long series premiered in September and through eight episodes has been a decent performer in the 10:00pm time slot on Monday nights, though it regularly gets beaten by a substantial margin by The Good Doctor, which brings in roughly double the viewers, both overall and in the key adults 18-49 demographic.

The Brave takes place in the world of America's elite undercover military operations. In D.C., a team of analysts utilize highly-advanced surveillance technology from their headquarters, while out in the field a Special Ops squad of expertly-trained undercover specialists risk it all as they execute dangerous missions behind enemy lines in the name of freedom and saving the lives of innocent people.

What today's news means for now is that Season 1 of The Bravewill end after its initial order of 13 episodes is up, with a final decision on a second season to come at a later date. As history goes, however, Season 2 does not appear likely at this point.

Taking The Brave's time slot in the New Year will be new crime drama Good Girls, which premieres on February 26.

  15. ABC has reportedly ordered three additional episodes for the first season of Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. The freshman drama premiered last month and is six episodes into its run.

Jason Ritter stars as the titular character, Kevin Finn, who is a self-absorbed man down on his luck and on a perilous path to despair. When he heads back home to stay with his twin sister and niece, an unlikely celestial being appears to him and tasks him with a mission to save the world, giving Kevin a new purpose in life.

While reviews have leaned to the positive side, the show has struggled to find an audience on Tuesday nights at 10:00pm. Episodes regularly fall behind its time slot competition, drawing fewer overall viewers and averaging below a 0.8 in the adults 18-49 demographic.

While the three-episode pickup does extend the show's season, the small number raises questions about the show's future. On one hand, the total number of episodes falls short of a full season order - something typically required for a show to return for another season. But on the other hand, ABC's top new drama The Good Doctor, only received five extra episodes for its first season and is considered a shoo-in for a renewal.

For now it appears the network is taking a wait-and-see approach to Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, with its future likely-dependent on how it performs for the remainder of the season.

  16. It is being reported that Fox has ordered an additional seven episodes for Season 2 of The Mick. The good news comes as the comedy continues to be a solid performer for the network, with ratings through its first four weeks this fall staying on par with the back half of its freshman run.

This is The Mick's first season on the regular fall schedule after starting out as a mid-season entry earlier this year with its premiere episode falling on New Years Day. The show jumped out of the gate, putting up strong numbers that resulted in four episodes being added to its first season - something not commonly done for mid-season shows. Today's top-up, though, gives The Mick its longest season yet at 20 episodes.

The Mick stars It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's Kaitlin Olson in her first leading role on network television. She plays Mickey - an overbearing hustler from Rhode Island who is unexpectedly given guardianship of her estranged sister's three high-maintenance children.

New episodes are currently airing on Tuesday nights at 9:00pm.

  17. CBS today extended its initial order for SEAL Team, picking up nine additional episodes of the freshman military drama. The move makes SEAL Team the first new drama of the fall season to get a full 22-episode order.

The series follows an elite unit of Navy SEALs that is composed of a tight-knit group of patriots with fearless dedication. Deployed on clandestine ops around the world, its members embark on these dangerous, high-stakes missions knowing the toll it takes on themselves and their families.

David Boreanaz stars in the series, which is off to a solid start on Wednesday nights. Its premiere last month netted nearly 10 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Week 2 dipped to a 1.2 in the demo, but it impressively held that same rating for its third episode.

New episodes of SEAL Team air Wednesday nights at 9:00pm.

  18. ABC announced today that five additional episodes have been ordered for the first season of The Good Doctor. The top-up brings the medical drama's episode count to 18 and makes it the first new drama of the fall to earn a full-season pickup - though it does fall short of the traditional 22 episodes that constitute a full season.

The Monday night series is two episodes into its run and off to a strong start. After its premiere garnered a 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, it impressively duplicated that number in week two - a feat not often accomplished.

The Good Doctor follows Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who leaves his quiet, country life behind to join the surgical unit at a renowned hospital in San Jose, California. Alone in his new surroundings and not able to form a personal connection with his peers, Dr. Murphy puts his extraordinary medical gifts to use in order to save lives and challenge his skeptical colleagues.
