Each week for five weeks, nine home cooks have their dreamsand their skills put to the test by judges John Torode andGregg Wallace.The first test is an audition round, where thebest three cooks automatically win themselves a covetedMasterChef apron and their place in the next stage of thecompetition. To give them their best chance to succeed, thejudges ask them to cook their Family Favourite dish and make itMasterChef worthy. The dish must show John and Gregg who theyare as a cook and how good they could become.After tasting allnine plates, John and Gregg pick their three favouritedishes, giving those cooks immunity from cooking in the nextround. The remaining six contestants then get another chance toimpress the judges and win themselves one of four remainingaprons.Faced with an invention test, they must pull out allthe stops to cook a dish – sweet or savoury – good enoughto get them into the next round.
