  1. Redskins QB Colt McCoy entered last weekend's game at New York optimistic because of a game plan that suited him well, but it quickly ended in frustration and another neck injury, one that has ended his season. The Redskins placed McCoy on injured reserve Tuesday. The good news for McCoy is that he said doctors told him he needed only two to three weeks of rest for the aggravated nerve in his neck to heal, so it shouldn't be a problem in the future. "This is not an issue that's going to threaten me," McCoy said. "Once this is healed up, I'm good to go. Unfortunately it comes when there's two weeks left in the season." That didn't make it any less frustrating for McCoy, who was emotional talking about the injury. Though he did not tear up during a four-minute session with the media, he did admit to having a tough time dealing with the latest twist in his career. After signing to be the Redskins' third-string quarterback this offseason, McCoy was given a chance to revive his career because of the Redskins' merry-go-round at quarterback. McCoy started in a 20-17 win at Dallas on Oct. 27. He started the past two games as well. McCoy said he feels a connection with Coach Jay Gruden and offensive coordinator Sean McVay. "I'm pretty emotional about it because I do feel comfortable here," McCoy said. "Jay and Sean and I see eye to eye on a whole lot of things and see the field the same way. I feel there were a lot of positive things ahead for me. I'm not saying there still isn't; I'm just frustrated I can't finish the season with my teammates. I felt we had them right where we wanted them last week. It's unfortunate. It's almost hard for me to talk about it because I know what good things were coming." For the season, including one relief appearance, McCoy completed 91 of 128 passes for 1,057 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Get Your Very Own Redskins Cowhide Wallet: just click here
  2. Chicago Bear’s chairman George McCaskey was involved in an altercation, the altercation came as the result of McCaskey arriving at some of his seats in the stadium bowl area of Soldier Field to find a couple of Saints fans sitting in them. McCaskey conversed briefly with one of the fans before heading to the concourse area to get stadium security. As McCaskey walked in that direction, the fan approached the chairman from behind and pushed him in the back. A Bears fan immediately came to McCaskey's aid, according to the team, and tackled the Saints fan. Shortly after, security arrived and ejected the Saints fan from the stadium. The fan, Richard Kohnke, 58, of New Orleans, was processed by police at the stadium and charged with misdemeanor battery, according to authorities. McCaskey did not require medical attention. 3. Robert Griffin III had enough of his words being twisted or taken a direction he had no desire to travel. So, during news conferences, the Redskins quarterback changed his tone. And on social media, once a landing spot for his phrases and sayings, he went silent. Griffin said he is staying off Twitter and Facebook until after the season. In fact, he hasn't tweeted or posted anything on Facebook since Thanksgiving. His last action on Twitter was to retweet a picture with a fan to help raise awareness for ALS. He also went bland in news conferences, his "focus on San Francisco" before facing the 49ers last month serving as a prime example. "It just felt like, for me, anything I was saying, whether it was positive or negative, whether it was a positive retweet or anything, was getting twisted and turned against me and against this team," he said. "I feel I can be free up here and talk to you guys, but sometimes things get twisted and turned and it creates a distraction for the team. I didn't want that to happen." Griffin said he tries not to pay attention to the intense focus on him, whether it's trying to parse the meaning of his quotes or negative reaction from fans via social media. "I played a game and then I was out for seven weeks and there was still a ton of noise," Griffin said. "Sometimes you don't understand certain things and they don't go the way you want them to go, but if I get criticized for retweeting about going to a charity event for a foundation, I mean what else can you do? So I decided to shut it down and not focus on it. "It's not that I was focused on it before. I felt like I would cut out a little bit of it for me. I'm sure there is still a lot of noise out there, but I don't ever see it." After Griffin tweeted well wishes to Kansas City's Eric Berry, who has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, some fans took that as an opportunity to criticize him. Griffin likes to interact with fans and has never been shy in interviews, but he said it hasn't been hard for him to take a different approach."I will get back into that in the off season," he said. "I'm a social person. I like to be open and talk to the fans, and we'll definitely get back to that, but for now I will just leave it alone." Another impetus for Griffin's silence was a public chastising from his coach after a 27-7 loss to Tampa Bay. After that game, Griffin blamed himself during most of a 10-minute news conference. However, he also said his teammates had to play better too. Redskins coach Jay Gruden pounced on that the following day. "I was just coaching out loud," Gruden said. "The whole thing came up when it came out he was criticizing his teammates or what have you. I just wanted to make sure he was worried about his own game." She later attends a Cosby stand up set and has another redeye. "I remember feeling very, very stoned and asking his chauffeur to take me back to the car," she says. "I was in the back of my car all alone," she claims. "My clothes were a mess, my bra was undone and my top was un-tucked." Ferrier says she later confronted Cosby at his hotel and he told her that she just had too much to drink. 1986 Alleged Cosby Rape Victim Barbara Bowman In 1986 Cosby's then-protégé, alleges he forced her to masturbate him in a Reno, Nevada hotel room. In a later incident at his Manhattan townhouse, she says she woke up nauseous in a men's T-shirt after a glass of red wine. After a similar incident in Atlantic City, she says Cosby summons her to his room, where he threw her on the bed and braced his arm under her neck so she couldn't move her head, and he started trying to take his clothes off. I remember all the clinking of his belt buckle, and he was trying to take my pants down, and she was trying to keep them on. After she resists his advances, he cuts off contact and has an escort take her to the airport for a flight home. She later sees a lawyer who "wouldn't take it seriously," according to a friend who went with her to the appointment. 1992 Alleged Cosby Rape Victim Angela Leslie In 1992 an aspiring model and actress, Angela Leslie sends Cosby a photograph and letter, she then meets him in Las Vegas. 14. Yet another woman has come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault. Chloe Goins claims that she was drugged and awoke to find Cosby licking her toes during a party at the Playboy Mansion in 2008. Goins says she attended the party at the invitation of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. She claims that Hefner introduced her to Cosby and then offered her a drink. She was just 18 years old at the time. "I wasn't really supposed to drink because of my age," Goins tells the Daily Mail. "Everything kind of went a little foggy. I started feeling sick to my stomach and just dizzy." Goins says the comic escorted her to a bedroom where she later woke up naked to find Cosby fondling her feet and masturbating. "I came to and remember seeing this big man crouched over me," she says. "It was Bill Cosby, and he was at my feet, kind of licking and kissing them and I think he bit my toe and that's what woke me up." Goins claims that Cosby ran from the room when he realized that she was awake. Read about The Life And Times Of Bill Cosby: just click here
  15. Randy Quaid and his wife went to Canada and now they're not allowed to come home ... so they're suing the United States Secretary of State so they can return to their homeland. Seems Randy and Evi are paying the piper for all the trouble emanating from some hotel hijinks. They skipped out on their $10K hotel bill in 2009 by using bogus credit cards. Criminal charges were filed but they evaded authorities and felony arrest warrants were issued. Randy and Evi went to Canada in 2010 but there was a big problem ... they're fugitives from justice because the felony warrants are still active. So the U.S. government revoked their passports. They've tried to get asylum in Canada but the government shut them down. The couple just filed a lawsuit against John Kerry, claiming they have been illegally deprived of their legal identity as American citizens. 17. Bill Cosby’s wife just broke her silence and fiercely defended her husband over various sexual assault allegations, saying, "He is a kind man, a generous man, a funny man, and a wonderful husband, father and friend. He is the man you thought you knew." Camilledidn't attack her husband's accusers, but said the media has been way to quick to pass judgment, saying, "A different man has been portrayed in the media over the last two months. It is the portrait of a man I do not know." She then zeros in on the accusers saying, "It is also the portrait painted by individuals and organizations whom many in the media have given a pass." Camille warns, "We all followed the story of the article in the "Rolling Stone" concerning allegations of rape at the University of Virginia. The story was heart-breaking but ultimately appears to be proved to be untrue." She adds, "Many in the media were quick to link that story to stories about my husband." And her final salvo ... "None of us will ever want to be in the position of attacking the victim. But the question should be asked -- who is the victim?" Read about The Life And Times Of Bill Cosby: just click here
  18. Jax Teller's ride may be over, but Sons of Anarchy will live forever in ratings history. The show's final season was the network's most watched season of any series in the network's 20-year history. The seventh and final season averaged 7.54 million viewers, beating the previous network record of 6.98 million viewers set by the show last season. Additionally, the series finale ranks as Sons' highest-rated episode ever among total viewers, women 18-49, adults and men 18-34, and adults, men, and women 25-54. Factoring in Live+3 data, the nearly two-hour finale clocked in at 9.26 million total viewers, with 6.07 million in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic. It is also the second-highest rated telecast in network history, behind only American Horror Story's fourth season premiere, which drew 10 million viewers. "It's a rare and remarkable accomplishment for a television show to generate its - and our channel's - highest ratings in its final season," said John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions in a statement. 20. Sy Berger, the father of modern day baseball cards, has died of natural causes at the age of 91. The news was announced Sunday morning by baseball historian Marty Appel on behalf of the family. Berger most famously devised the practice of signing Major League Baseball players year after year to be able to use their name and image on cards in annual sets. For more than three decades, Topps was paying players only $75 a year for that privilege and, most of the time, that amount was applied to buying something from the company catalog. Berger's personal relationships with the stars in the beginning years made it easier to make them sign on the dotted line, though he did not sign Cardinals slugger Stan Musial for the first six years. Berger was often seen at the side of Willie Mays, whom he considered among his closest friends Topps was founded in 1938 as a chewing gum company. As the competition in the gum market exploded, Topps unveiled Bazooka, with the added value of comics, to help sell the brand. That eventually led to putting gum in packs of baseball cards. And in 1952, Sy Berger arrived at the company to help make and produce the first set, which he designed at his kitchen table using cardboard and scissors. The packs of six cards were wrapped in wax and, of course, had a piece of bubble gum in it for a total cost of five cents. Despite having a Mickey Mantle "rookie" card in the set, sales were not good. Since they overproduced the second part of the set that year, Berger, for years, would try to unload the cards anywhere they could. "Around 1959 or so, I went around to carnivals and offered them for a penny a piece and it got so bad I offered them at 10 for a penny," Berger told Sports Collectors Digest in 2007. "They would say, 'We don't want them.'" In 1960, still saddled with a huge number of cards from the 1952 set, Berger put the remaining cards into three full garbage trucks and commissioned a barge to dump the remaining inventory into the Atlantic Ocean. With kids putting the cards in the spokes of their bicycle and years later, the parents of those who had saved them throwing out their shoeboxes full of cards, scarcity led to an era where the baseball card became an investment. After the T206 Honus Wagner card, the 1952 Topps Mantle is the most valuable card in the baseball card world. One of the 1952 Mantle cards sold at auction last week for $268,664. For years, baseball cards were the marketing mechanism for the gum companies -- Topps competed with Bowman and Fleer and Donruss. In the mid-80s, the fervor over cards led the cardboard to become the main attraction over the gum. Gum was soon wrapped in plastic so as not to hurt the cards and eventually was gone from packs altogether. Berger, who worked for Topps until 2002, is survived by his wife Gloria, his daughter Maxine, and his two sons Glen and Gary. Check Out This 2014 Baseball Card Set: just click here
  21. The White Sox have found an upgrade in left field by agreeing with free agent Melky Cabrera. The three-year contract is worth $42 million, pending a physical exam which is expected to take place early this week. Cabrera, who was believed to have significant interest from the Mariners, would take over in left field and continue an impressive string of offseason acquisitions from general manager Rick Hahn. The 30-year old Cabrera batted .301 with 81 runs scored in 139 games for the Blue Jays this past season, hitting 16 home runs with 73 RBIs. The White Sox have not confirmed the signing, which comes days after a trade for pitcher Jeff Samardzija was made official and three days after the signing of reliever David Robertson was announced, but White Sox outfielder Adam Eaton mentioned Cabrera in a welcome message on Twitter on Saturday night, and Cabrera retweeted the message. 22. The Dodgers have agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with left-hander Brett Anderson, with $4 million in possible incentives. Anderson went 1-3 with 2.91 ERA in his only season with the Rockies, who elected to decline his $12 million option. Finger and back problems marred Anderson's 2014 in Colorado, limiting the 26-year-old to eight starts. For his career, Anderson is 27-32 with a 3.73 ERA. He played his previous five years with the Athletics before he was dealt to the Rockies prior to the 2014 season. Get Your Very Own Dodger Fan Man Cave Sign: just click here
  23. The Astros have reached agreement on a three-year contract with infielder Jed Lowrie, general manager Jeff Luhnow announced and Lowrie will receive a guaranteed $23 million. Lowrie, 30, is a .261 hitter over seven major league seasons with Boston, Houston and Oakland. He hit .244 with 16 homers during a previous stint with the Astros in 2012. Lowrie, who makes his off season home in Houston, is expected to play shortstop for the Astros. Houston had also expressed interest in free agents Stephen Drew and Asdrubal Cabrera before signing Lowrie. Lowrie enjoyed a career season in 2013 with the A's, setting career bests in batting average (.290) and RBIs (75) and also finishing with 15 home runs. Oakland acquired him from the Astros in a five-player trade before that season. He was paid $5.25 million last season. Get Your Very Own Astros Baseball: just click here
  24. Outfielder Bryce Harper has agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Nationals, avoiding a scheduled grievance hearing this week with the team. The Nats released a statement confirming a deal had been reached. "We are pleased to have reached an agreement today with Bryce Harper," the statement read. "This is a fair agreement that benefits both sides. We look forward to seeing Bryce on the field this spring and working towards a 2015 World Series Championship." The Major League Baseball Players Association had filed a grievance on Harper's behalf over whether he should be able to void the 2015 terms in the final season of a $9.9 million, five-year contract he signed when drafted. An arbitrator hearing would have taken place Tuesday if Harper and the Nationals hadn't settled. The agreement comes two days after harper didn’t show up for a scheduled appearance at the NatsFest fan festival, which prompted general manager Mike Rizzo to say he was "disappointed" by the outfielder's absence. Harper, who turned 22 in October, is already a two-time NL All-Star and one of the Nationals' most popular and marketable players. He's coming off an injury-interrupted season in which he batted .273 with 13 homers and 32 RBIs but thrived in Washington's NL Division Series loss to the Giants. Harper hit .368 with three homers and four RBIs in that four-game series. He lost time in the first few months of the season after having surgery on a torn thumb ligament suffered when he slid into third base during a game on April 25. Harper wasn't back in the lineup until June 30. Harper hit career highs during his first season in the majors, belting 22 homers and 59 RBIs in a 2012 campaign that saw him win the National League Rookie of the Year. Motte has spent his whole career with the Cardinals and was their closer in 2011 when they won the World Series. He later had elbow trouble and missed the entire 2013 season following Tommy John surgery. Last season, Motte struggled through back injuries, posting a 4.68 ERA in 29 appearances. Before missing 2013, Motte had a career year in 2012. He made 67 appearances, pitched 72 innings, racked up 42 saves and had a 2.75 ERA. Get Your Very Own Cubs Baseball: just click here
