The smoky-voiced actress made an indelible mark when she was 19 in her film debut, 1944's To Have and Have Not, where she created her seductive The Look gaze, chin down, eyes up, and uttered the famous line: "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow." Bacall fell for Humphrey Bogart on set, and the pair, who remained married until his 1957 death, starred in Dark Passage, The Big Sleep and Key Largo. A two-time Tony winner, Bacall received an Oscar nomination for 1996's The Mirror Has Two Faces and was awarded an honorary Oscar in 2009.
