  1. The CW announced today that Roswell, New Mexico has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes just one day after the conclusion of its freshman run, which ultimately garnered mixed reviews.

The sci-fi drama premiered in January as a mid-season entry with somewhat of a familiar name. It is the second TV-adapted series of the 'Roswell High' book series by Melinda Metz; the first being 1999s Roswell, which ran for three seasons on The WB and UPN networks.

Roswell, New Mexico follows jaded biomedical researcher Liz Ortecho, who has recently returned to her hometown and reconnected with her high school crush Max. But Liz is surprised to learn that Max and his siblings are aliens who have spent their lives hiding their otherworldly abilities. And as they grow closer to, it gets harder for Liz to keep the truth from others. But concealing the siblings' true identities is crucial, as a long-running government conspiracy and the politics of fear and hatred put their lives at risk.

Today's renewal comes as The CW is firming up its lineup for next season. A total of 14 scripted series will be returning - with no cancellations for any of its freshman shows.

Look for Season 2 of Roswell, New Mexico as part of the 2019-2020 television season.

  2. Cinemax announced today that Warrior has been renewed for a second season. The good news comes just three episodes into the action drama's run, which has so far been garnering a generally positive reception from both viewers and critics.

Based on an original concept by martial arts legend Bruce Lee, Warrior follows Ah Sahm, a young martial arts prodigy in the 1870s who immigrates to San Francisco from China under mysterious circumstances after the Civil War. Once there, he becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown's most powerful and feared organized crime families.

Look for Season 2 of Warrior in 2020.

  3. Fox announced today that Last Man Standing will be returning for an eighth season. The good news, which comes on the eve of its 150th episode, marks the comedy's first renewal at its new network.

The Tim Allen series was cancelled back in 2017 after six seasons at its original home on ABC. It took some time, but a year later Fox decided to revive the show for the 2018-2019 season. The move has been paying off for the network, as since its return Last Man Standing has been garnering healthy ratings on Friday nights, currently ranking as Fox's third-best scripted original in Live+7 viewing.

Last Man Standing follows Mike Baxter, a man's man who works as a marketing director for a sporting goods store. But while he may be the king of the hill at work, he's the odd man out at his female-dominated household.

Look for Season 8 of Last Man Standing in the mid-season of 2019-2020 season.

  4. Word is out this evening that Fox has cancelled The Gifted after two seasons. The mutant drama, which concluded its sophomore run earlier this year, is the latest Marvel-based series to get the axe.

The show premiered in 2017 and had a fairly strong debut outing. Reviews were generally positive and ratings were solid enough for it to rank as the #3 new drama of that season. And while critical reception remained strong in Season 2, ratings did slip considerably compared to what it brought in for Season 1. Combine that with the fact that Marvel-based fare has been dropping like flies in recent months, and today's cancellation did not come as a complete surprise.

Set in Marvel's X-Men universe, The Gifted follows a family who learns that their kids possess mutant powers. And though the father is a district attorney, he is forced to take his family on the run from a hostile government and join up with an underground network of mutants in a fight to survive.

  5. NBC announced today that Manifest will be coming back for a second season. The good news arrives two months following the drama's freshman run, and will surely come as a relief to fans curious to get to the bottom of the show's over-arching mystery.

The hour-long series premiered last September as one of the fall's hottest shows. Through its first four weeks on the air, Manifest ranked as the season's most-watched and highest-rated new series. That strong momentum could not be sustained for the entirety of its run though, as its numbers came down to earth for the back-half of the season.

Manifest follows the passengers and crew of Montego Air Flight 828, which recently landed safely after being reported missing five years ago. To those aboard, though, it was just a typical flight with a bit of turbulence. With the returned passengers and crew back home, they now face a new reality with a second chance. But a deeper mystery starts to unfold as some of the returned realize they could be meant for something greater.

Look for Season 2 of Manifest this fall as part of the 2019-2020 television season.

  6. CBS announced today that Blue Bloods has been picked up for a tenth season. The news comes with four episodes remaining in the police drama's current season, and coincides with star Tom Selleck signing a one-year deal to stay on with the show for 2019-2020.

The veteran series has been a Friday night staple on the network, where year after year it continues to garner consistently-healthy ratings that best its time slot competition. Its impressively-long run will hit 199 episodes at the end of Season 9, with its forthcoming fall premiere reserved for its milestone 200th.

Blue Bloods follows the Police Commissioner of New York, who runs his department in the same diplomatic manner he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his father during his stint as Chief.

  7. It was announced today that the upcoming fourth season of Preacher will be its last. Co-creator Seth Rogen broke the news on his Twitter account, with a post that also announced a return date for the comic book-adapted drama's final run.

The fourth and final season of Preacher will premiere on Sunday, August 4 on AMC.

  8. It is being reported that Hulu has renewed Future Man for a third and final season. The move comes three months after the comedy's sophomore release on the streaming service.

The decision to end the series comes just one day after Preacher announced the upcoming end to its run. Both shows are co-executive produced by Seth Rogen who just last week, along with Evan Goldberg, moved their content deal from Sony TV to Lionsgate.

Future Man follows a despondent janitor who typically spends his nights playing video games. That is until his ordinary life is turned upside down when mysterious visitors recruit him for a mission to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity and save the planet earth.

Eight episodes have been ordered for Season 3, making the final season its shortest to-date. No time frame has been set for its return.

  9. Fox announced today that The Resident will be returning for a third season. The good news comes near the end of the medical drama's sophomore run, which has five episodes remaining including tonight's airing.

The series premiered early last year as a mid-season entry with a 14-episode run. After a strong showing, Fox moved it into its regular fall lineup for the 2018-2019 season. After another solid start in the fall, the network topped up its sophomore run to a full season of 22 episodes.

The Resident stars Matt Czuchry as a senior resident and Emily VanCamp as a nurse practitioner at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. The series brings to light the hard truths about modern-day medicine - both good and bad. Some lives are saved while others are lost, but expectations are always be shattered.

Look for Season 3 of The Resident this fall.

  10. It was announced today that Supernatural will be coming to an end after its already-ordered 15th season. The news, which was posted on social media by some of its stars, comes two months after the veteran drama's most-recent renewal and will bring an end to one of television's longest-running series.

Originally premiering on the now-defunct WB Network in 2005, Supernatural has impressively amassed over 300 episodes and boasts one of television's most-loyal fanbases. Throughout its time on the air, the show has always been one of The CW's top-rated series - even to this day.

20 episodes have been ordered for the final season of Supernatural. That number matches the total of its current 14th season, which is its shortest in over a decade. Look for a premiere this fall.

  11. Starz announced today that American Gods has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes just days after the fantasy drama's long-awaited sophomore premiere, which returned nearly two years after Season 1 first premiered.

Adapted from the 2001 Neil Gaiman novel, American Gods follows ex-con and widower Shadow Moon, who has his life turned upside down not long after being released from prison. He meets a charismatic con man named Mr. Wednesday, who is actually an incarnation of the God Odin and looking to confront the new Gods, who have been growing stronger. Together, Mr. Wednesday and Shadow Moon begin a journey across America in an attempt to build an army of Old Gods that will battle for power against the New Gods.

A new showrunner is being brought in for Season 3. Charles "Chic" Eglee will be at the helm going forward, with hopes that the wait for the next season will perhaps be a little shorter this time around.

Look for Season 3 of American Gods hopefully in 2020.

  12. NBC announced today that The Blacklist has been picked up for a seventh season. Word is that Season 7 was already secured last May when the crime drama was renewed for Season 6, though nothing was said at the time. Currently sitting at an impressive 121 total episodes, the show could surpass the 150 mark if next season follows suit with another full 22 episodes.

Led by James Spader, the series premiered in 2013 as one of the top new shows of that year. While its best days have long-since passed, the show still draws a decent audience in its new Friday night time slot. This season marks its first as a mid-season player, with a January premiere rather than its typical fall start. The network will likely keep it in the mid-season for 2019-2020.

The Blacklist stars Spader as an ex-government agent-turned-FBI's most wanted fugitive, who mysteriously surrenders himself to the agency with an offer to help them bring down some of the country's top criminals. The only condition is that he gets to work alongside an FBI profiler named Elizabeth Keen, which leads to a twisting series of events that slowly reveal his true motives.

  13. Word is out today that Arrow will be coming to an end after its upcoming eighth season. The action drama is the network's longest-running superhero-based series, with its success helping pave the way for the likes of The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Star Stephen Amell took to Twitter with the news, which does not come as a complete surprise given the show’s age. Once a flagship of The CW, Arrow's ratings have tapered off over the years. But at over 150 episodes, that is to be expected. And yet, it still draws decent numbers for the network compared to its other prime time entries. Yearly crossover episodes with fellow DC series also help boost its viewership.

  14. USA Network announced today that The Sinner has been picked up for a third season. Originally billed as a limited series, the Bill Pullman-starring drama has turned out to be a big hit for the cable network, with each season focusing on an all-new crime.

The Sinner premiered in 2017 and immediately made its mark both critically and in the ratings. The show ended up ranking as the top new cable series of the year, paving the way for more installments to come.

Season 1 starred Jessica Biel as a young mother who commits a shocking act of violence for no apparent reason. Investigator Harry Ambrose, played by Pullman, becomes obsessed with uncovering the woman's buried motive, and the two end up on a harrowing journey into her troubled past.

Season 2 brought back Pullman's character on a new "why-dunnit" murder case, where he returns to his hometown after a young boy kills a couple who were looking after him.

Today's Season 3 announcement confirmed that Matt Bomer will be joining the series as an upstanding Dorchester resident and father-to-be who seeks support in the wake of an accident. All we know about the main story line at this point is that Detective Ambrose uncovers a hidden crime during a routine investigation that sets him on the most dangerous case of his career.

  15. NBC announced today that Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been picked up for a seventh season. The good news marks the first renewal of the cop comedy at the peacock network since being revived from cancellation last year.

The half-hour series is currently seven episodes into its 18-episode sixth season, and so far things are looking good. Ratings to this point have been solid in its Thursday night time slot, and critical consensus is that the show hasn't missed a beat comedically since its return.

Led by Saturday Night Live alum Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows an offbeat group of detectives and staff at the 99th precinct of the New York Police Department. Samberg plays the eclectic Jake Peralta, a talented but immature detective whose carefree style clashes with his stern, by-the-books captain, played by Andre Braugher.

Look for Season 7 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine during the 2019-2020 season.

  16. CBS announced today that Star Trek: Discovery has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes in the midst of the sci-fi drama's sophomore run, which has continued to garner critical praise as a worthy addition to the storied franchise on which it is based.

The big-budget production seems to have found its footing after a bit of a rocky beginning. First announced in 2015, it took two years for the series to make its much-anticipated debut in late 2017 due to multiple delays as well as a showrunner change during that time. While things are running smoother now, today's announcement also included news that a second showrunner is being added for Season 3. Executive Producer Michelle Paradise is joining Alex Kurtzman at the helm going forward.

Taking place 10 years before the events of the original Star Trek series, Star Trek: Discovery follows a brand new crew on a new ship as they take on missions to discover new worlds and lifeforms during the Federation-Klingon war.

Look for Season 3 to premiere sometime in 2020.

  17. NBC announced today that Chicago Fire has been renewed for an eighth season. The original entry in the Chicago franchise will return for the 2019-2020 season along with spin-offs Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med - both also picked up today for the fall.

On the air since 2012, Chicago Fire is the network's second-longest-running drama currently on the air. Its success paved the way for three spin-offs over the years, and while 2017's Chicago Justice only lasted one season, the remaining trio remains strong. In fact, the three shows together are currently enjoying their most-watched season ever.

Chicago Fire follows the courageous men and women at Firehouse 51, home to noble firefighters and paramedics who look fear in the eye and forge headfirst into dangerous situations in order to help those in need. The series recently surpassed the 150-episode mark.

Look for Season 8 of Chicago Fire this fall.

  18. CBS announced a two-season renewal for Young Sheldon today - the first of its kind for the comedy - that will see it on the air through Season 4. The Chuck Lorre-created spin-off has been one of the network's top comedies over the course of its run.

Premiering in 2017, the show was quick to find an audience thanks to it being based on the early life of popular Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper. With The Big Bang Theory set to end this year, Young Sheldon could become TV's most-watched comedy and in all probability will take over its predecessor's time slot going forward.

Young Sheldon follows a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas. At a young age, his advanced mathematical and scientific mind isn't necessarily helpful when living in a town where football and church get all the attention. Vulnerable, gifted and naive, Sheldon is embarking on his awkward journey toward the man he will become.

  19. Amazon announced today that The Man in the High Castle will be concluding its story with its already-announced fourth season. Since its premiere in 2015, the alternate history drama has been one of the streaming services most popular and critically-acclaimed original series.

Loosely-based on the 1962 Philip K. Dick novel of the same name, The Man in the High Castle takes place in a dystopian alternate history where the United States has lost World War II and is now partitioned into three zones: a Japanese-occupied west coast, a Nazi-controlled east coast, and a neutral buffer zone that separates the two.

Look for the fourth and final season of The Man in the High Castle this fall.

  20. It's the end of the Marvel era at Netflix. The streaming service today cancelled both Jessica Jones and The Punisher, the two remaining series in its superhero lineup based on the comic giant's work. The move was somewhat expected after Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were all given the ax late last year.

Jessica Jones follows a troubled former superhero rebuilding her life by starting her own detective agency in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. The series premiered in 2015 as the second Marvel superhero series on the streaming service.

Following in Daredevil's footsteps, the show garnered widespread praise from both critics and audiences for its gritty storytelling and portrayal of the flawed antihero. It took over two years for Season 2 to premiere, and while overall feedback was still positive, the consensus was that it took a step back from its freshman run.

Jessica Jones was picked up for Season 3 last April and filming has already completed. Netflix still plans to release the third and final season of the show, though a premiere date has not been set.

  21. Syfy announced today that Van Helsing has been picked up for a fifth and final season. The news, which comes three days ahead of its fourth-season finale, ensures that showrunners will have plenty of time to craft a fitting end to the saga on their own terms.

Van Helsing is a re-imagining of the perennial Dracula brand that follows the resurrection of Vanessa Helsing, a descendent of the legendary Van Helsing lineage of warriors, and her quest to lead mankind against a world controlled by vampires in the post-Rising landscape.

The cable network has ordered another 13 episodes for the show's final run, matching the length of each of its other seasons. Look for a premiere in the fall of 2020.

  22. AMC announced today that Into the Badlands will not continue past its current third season. The news was somewhat expected, as it has been nearly two years since its last renewal and the cable network has been mum regarding its future during that time.

The martial arts drama premiered in 2015 with a six-episode run that fared well, garnering generally positive reviews and solid ratings. An expanded 10-episode season followed in 2017, but saw weakening viewership despite continued critical praise. Season 3 debuted last year with an even larger order of 16 episodes, but with audience numbers falling even further, the likelihood of a fourth season became less and less of a reality.

The final eight episodes of Into the Badlands begin airing on Sunday, March 24 at 10:00pm before continuing in their regular Monday night time slot on March 25.

  23. ABC announced today that The Good Doctor has been renewed for a third season. The medical drama has continued its strong performance in its sophomore run, ranking as the network's most-watched series and one of its highest-rated among adults 18-49.

Airing Monday nights, the show regularly beats its 10:00pm competition, including NBC's freshman hit Manifest, which has failed to maintain its initially strong momentum.

The Good Doctor stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who leaves his quiet, country life behind to join the surgical unit at a renowned hospital in San Jose, California. Alone in his new surroundings and not able to form a personal connection with his peers, Dr. Murphy puts his extraordinary medical gifts to use in order to save lives and challenge his skeptical colleagues.

Look for Season 3 of The Good Doctor to premiere this fall as part of ABC's 2019-2020 schedule.

The award-winning comedy has been one of the network's strongest performers during its time on the air. While current ratings are not at the level of its heyday, it remains one of ABC's highest-rated scripted entries.

The number of episodes planned for the final season is not yet known, though it will likely fall within the typical 18-22 range. Look for a return this fall.
