ABC announced today that Nashville has been renewed for a second season. The news comes two weeks before the freshman drama wraps up its 21-episode first season on May 22. No details are available on Season 2 of Nashville at this time, but expect a return later this fall for the 2013-2014 television season. (Source: Twitter)

ABC has renewed Scandal for a third season. The Shonda Rhimes political drama has come into its own since premiering in April 2012 for a short 7-episode run. Its pickup for Season 2 improved on that with an order for 13 episodes, and that was further topped up by the network to a full 22 last October. (Source: Twitter)

NBC has cancelled Smash after two seasons. The musical drama has had its share of troubles since premiering as a mid-season replacement in February 2012. Shortly after being picked up for a second season, showrunner Theresa Rebeck announced that she would be stepping down at Season 1's end. After ratings for Season 2 plummeted, the network moved Smash to Saturday nights to burn off the remainder of its episodes. The series finale of Smash will air on May 26, 2013. NBC has cancelled The New Normal after its first season. The Ryan Murphy-created comedy premiered last September and earned a full-season pickup from the network a month later. NBC has renewed Community for a fifth season. Fans will surely be pleased with this news, as many speculated that the current season would be the show's last. Happy Endings has been cancelled by ABC after three seasons. During the show's run, the network struggled to find a consistent time slot for the comedy, which was frequently moved around to different days and times.
