The CW announced today that The Vampire Diaries has been renewed for a fifth season. Since premiering in 2009, the series has been one of the network's most consistent shows, where it has continued to be the highest rated in target demographics of adults 18-34 and women 18-34.
Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries will return in the fall of 2013.
