The Great British Sewing Bee 5x3 - 70s Week
Event details
With Joe Lycett hosting, the eight remaining home sewers headback in time to the 1970s, attempting to revive theglamorous, rebellious and sometimes ridiculous style of thedecade. This is more than a stroll down memory lane as theytackle the decade's most fiddly, floaty and anarchicgarments.First up, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Youngchallenge the sewers to get their groove on with the trickiestpattern so far, flared jeans. Creating the perfectbell-bottomed trousers involves grappling with vintagemachines, heavyweight fabrics and taking on such dauntingtechnical hurdles as the zip fly and flat-felled seam, hopefully without getting in a flap. For the transformationchallenge, fabric flies and anarchy rules as the sewers letrip with their imagination, turning t-shirts and tartan intoprovocative punk-inspired outfits in just 90 minutes. In themade to measure challenge the sewers take on their final iconof 70s fashion, the maxi dress. Working with sheer, slipperyfabrics, they must create a form-fitting bodice and floatyskirt that embodies the glamour that makes the maxi dresspopular to this day. Who will boogie their way to garment ofthe week, and for whom will 70s week signal the end of anera, as they become the third sewer to wave goodbye to theGreat British Sewing Bee?
