Sal Mineo was a child actor who skyrocketed to stardom in "Rebel without a Cause" and was twice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was stabbed to death behind his apartment building. Many wondered if the murder was a hate crime since Mineo had come out as a homosexual. However, years later the murderer was identified as a pizza delivery man who was trying to rob him, who did not know that he was a famous actor. He died February 12, 1976.
