After spending much of her childhood in foster homes, Monroe began a career as a model, which led to a film contract in 1946 with Twentieth Century-Fox. The death of this actress is one of the most famous Hollywood mysteries and spurred many theories about its real cause rather than barbiturate poisoning as reported by the coroner. Those who believe that she was murdered suggest the involvement of the mob, the communists and even the CIA. She died August 5, 1962.
