Freeform Cancels 'Cloak & Dagger'

MidnightCategory: Cancellations
Post Date:

No Season 3 for the Marvel-based drama.
Word is out that Freeform will not be ordering a third season of Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, cancelling the show after two seasons. The sad news comes nearly five months after the comic-based drama aired its sophomore finale, which will now act as its series ender.
Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cloak & Dagger follows the lives of two teenagers named Tandy and Tyrone. While they come from very different backgrounds, they are awakened to newfound superpowers that mysteriously link them to each other.
The hour-long series premiered in 2018 to critical praise and solid viewership numbers, with its debut run ranking as one of that summer's top cable dramas in key demographics. It couldn't sustain that momentum going into Season 2, however, as ratings slipped considerably.
While the show is now over, fans will get a final chance to catch the Cloak & Dagger duo this December in the upcoming third season of Marvel's Runaways as part of a planned crossover event.

Two weeks after its sophomore finale, The Outpost has been picked up for a third season. The fantasy adventure drama continued its run this summer, garnering similar ratings to its first season.

Now the only remaining member of her race, she travels to a lawless fortress on the edge of civilization looking for her family's killer. On her way to the outpost, Talon learns that she possesses a supernatural power that she must harness in order to save herself and defend the world against a radical religious dictator.

Tom Payne stars in the series as Malcolm Bright, a criminal psychologist with a special gift of knowing how the minds of killers work. This is because in the 1990s, his dad was a notorious serial killer known as "The Surgeon." 'The Walking Dead' Renewed For Season 11

MidnightCategory: Renewals
Post Date:

The veteran horror series will continue in 2020.
Today's New York Comic Con panel for The Walking Dead delivered some good, albeit obvious, news for the series in the form of a pickup for Season 11. Showrunner Angela Kang made the announcement, which comes just a day ahead of the post-apocalyptic horror drama's 10th season premiere.
The long-running series continues to rank as one of cable television's top scripted series, though its current audience numbers are far from what they were in its heyday. To paint a picture, viewership in Season 9 was pulling in numbers similar to what it was drawing way back in Season 1, before it gained 'hit' status.
It was also announced today that Lauren Cohan will making a return to the show in Season 10, bringing fan-favorite character Maggie Greene back into the fold. The news was somewhat expected, as the series Cohan left The Walking Dead to pursue, Whiskey Cavalier, was cancelled after its first season.

'Stranger Things' Renewed For Season 4

MidnightCategory: Renewals
Post Date:

The hit drama will return in 2020.
Netflix announced today that Stranger Things has been picked up for a fourth season. The good news, which is really no surprise given the series' continued popularity, comes just under three months after the drama's Season 3 release.
The 1980s-themed horror/mystery drama burst onto the scene in 2016 and quickly gained a huge pop culture following backed by plenty of critical praise and awards. Everything from its captivating storytelling and likable characters, to its creepy atmosphere and nostalgic references, really struck a chord with a wide range of viewers.
Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things takes place in Hawkins, Indiana and follows a group of kids who become friends with a mysterious girl that possesses psychokinetic abilities. They discover an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down, which starts to have an increasing affect on the town and its residents.
There is not much known regarding Season 4 in terms of returning cast members or story line, but a teaser released today reveals that the setting will, at least in part, take place outside of Hawkins. While no premiere date is known, a mid-to-late 2020 return appears likely.

The cable comedy will be back for Season 2.
Showtime announced today that 'On Becoming a God in Central Florida' has been picked up for a second season. The good news comes midway through the black comedy's run, which has so-far received a mostly-positive critical reception.
Set in the 1990s, the series stars Kirsten Dunst as Krystal Stubbs, an Orlando water park employee who lies, cheats, and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise, which is the same cultish, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that ruined her family in the first place. As she uses the scheme to make a better life for herself, Krystal realizes that her shady business venture is starting to affect those close to her.
Look for Season 2 of 'On Becoming A God In Central Florida' in 2020. For now, new episodes are airing Sunday nights at 10:00pm.

Post Date:

The animated comedy scores three more seasons.
Comedy Central announced today that South Park has been picked up for Seasons 24, 25, and 26. The renewal is similar to the one it received in 2015, which was also a three-season order for a total of 30 episodes. The news comes two weeks ahead of the animated comedy's 23rd season premiere.
South Park is the longest-running primetime cable scripted series on television, and has also been the top-rated primetime cable comedy for the last six years. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have written and directed every episode since its inception in 1997, and will continue to do so moving forward.
Season 23 of South Park will premiere on Wednesday, September 25.

'Succession' Renewed For Season 3

MidnightCategory: Renewals
Post Date:

The acclaimed drama will continue in 2020.
HBO announced today that Succession has been picked up for a third season. The good news comes two episodes into the drama's sophomore run, which has once again been garnering high critical acclaim.
The buzz around the series has been building as of late, resulting in the Season 2 premiere drawing series high viewership across the cable network's delivery platforms. Additionally, last month the show received an impressive five Emmy Award nominations, including one in the Outstanding Drama Series category.
Succession follows the Roy family, which is comprised of the powerful patriarch Logan and his four children. Logan heads up the family-run business, Waystar Royco - one of the world's largest media and entertainment conglomerates. As the aging father begins to step back from the company, a power struggle erupts between him and his eldest son, and between the rest of the siblings themselves. The resulting feud tests their ability to separate business from family loyalties.
Look for Season 3 of Succession in 2020.

Syfy Cancels 'Krypton'

MidnightCategory: Cancellations
Post Date:

No Season 3 for the Superman prequel.
It is being reported that Krypton has been cancelled by Syfy after two seasons. The sad news comes just two days after the drama's sophomore finale, which now acts as its series ender.
The Superman prequel premiered last year with a 10-episode run that, despite mixed reviews, fared well for the cable network. Ratings in Season 2 did not fare as well, however, dropping in numbers by almost half.
Set on the titular planet 200 years before the birth of Kal-El, aka Superman, Krypton follows his grandfather Seg-El. He is the son of a disgraced scientist whose time travel research has cost the family their standing in society. With the House of El having fallen from grace, a power struggle ignites between the planet's elite classes. Things get worse when a hero arrives from the future with bad news regarding the family's bloodline.

'The 100' To End After Season 7

MidnightCategory: Cancellations
Post Date:

The futuristic drama will conclude in 2020.
Word is out that The 100 will be coming to an end after its already-ordered seventh season. Creator Jason Rothenberg took to Twitter this morning to announce the news to his followers.
The book-based sci-fi drama has had an impressive run overall. On the air since 2014, it is currently the third-longest running scripted series on the network. The 16 episodes ordered for Season 7 will take the show to a fitting 100 episodes total.
Set in a future where the Earth was previously-decimated by nuclear Armageddon, The 100 follows a group of young survivors who are sent back to Earth in a desperate measure to keep the human race alive.
Look for the seventh and final season of The 100 in early-to-mid 2020.
