The new military drama is given more episodes.
CBS today extended its initial order for SEAL Team, picking up nine additional episodes of the freshman military drama. The move makes SEAL Team the first new drama of the fall season to get a full 22-episode order.
The series follows an elite unit of Navy SEALs that is composed of a tight-knit group of patriots with fearless dedication. Deployed on clandestine ops around the world, its members embark on these dangerous, high-stakes missions knowing the toll it takes on themselves and their families.
David Boreanaz stars in the series, which is off to a solid start on Wednesday nights. Its premiere last month netted nearly 10 million total viewers and a 1.5 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic. Week 2 dipped to a 1.2 in the demo, but it impressively held that same rating for its third episode.
New episodes of SEAL Team air Wednesday nights at 9:00pm.

More episodes ordered for the new medical drama.
ABC announced today that five additional episodes have been ordered for the first season of The Good Doctor. The top-up brings the medical drama's episode count to 18 and makes it the first new drama of the fall to earn a full-season pickup - though it does fall short of the traditional 22 episodes that constitute a full season.
The Monday night series is two episodes into its run and off to a strong start. After its premiere garnered a 2.2 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic, it impressively duplicated that number in week two - a feat not often accomplished.
The Good Doctor follows Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome who leaves his quiet, country life behind to join the surgical unit at a renowned hospital in San Jose, California. Alone in his new surroundings and not able to form a personal connection with his peers, Dr. Murphy puts his extraordinary medical gifts to use in order to save lives and challenge his skeptical colleagues.

The drama will end its run early next year.
TNT announced today that Major Crimes will be coming to an end after its upcoming sixth season. The spin-off series will be concluding a successful run of over 100 episodes as one of the cable network's strongest entries. Its most-recent season was watched by an average of 7.7 million viewers across linear, digital, and VOD platforms.
Major Crimes got its start in 2012 as a spin-off of The Closer. In five-plus years on the air, the series has done an impressive job as its successor, drawing consistently-strong viewership that ranks it as one of the most-watched shows on cable TV among total viewers as well in key demographics.
The sixth and final season of Major Crimes premieres on October 31 at 9:00pm for a 13-episode run that will conclude with a 2-hour series finale on January 16, 2018.

Spike Cancels 'The Mist'

By Midnight, in Cancellations,

No Season 2 for the Stephen King-based thriller.
It is being reported that Spike has cancelled The Mist after just one season. The science fiction thriller ran for 10 episodes over the course of the summer with its finale airing in late August. A second season appeared to be in doubt after the show received mixed reviews and failed to draw a sizeable audience.
Based on a story by Stephen King, The Mist followed the story of a family torn apart by a brutal crime, after which an eerie mist rolled into their small town, isolating its residents from the rest of the world. Family, friends, and even adversaries are forced to band together as the rules of society break down, in order to battle the mysterious mist and the threats it brings.

The new comedy receives an early top-up.
Just two days after a strong first showing, CBS has handed out a full-season order to Young Sheldon. The new Big Bang Theory spin-off debuted Monday with a "preview" episode that netted an impressive 3.8 rating in the adults 18-49 demo with a total of 17.2 million viewers. The show also fared well in retaining 98% of its lead-in audience from the season premiere of The Big Bang Theory.
The comedy follows a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper growing up in East Texas. At a young age, his advanced mathematical and scientific mind isn't necessarily helpful when living in a town where football and church get all the attention. Vulnerable, gifted and naive, Sheldon is embarking on his awkward journey toward the man he will become.
The network has ordered an additional nine episodes to top up the show's freshman season to 22 episodes in total. With Monday's airing being dubbed a "preview", Young Sheldon will now take five weeks off before making its official premiere in its regular time slot on Thursday, November 2.

No Season 4 for the sci-fi drama.
It is being reported that Freeform has canceled Stitchers after three seasons. The science fiction crime drama, which concluded its most-recent run last month, was one of the cable network's older shows from back when it was known as ABC Family.
The network's first procedural drama, Stitchers followed a young woman who is able to 'stitch' herself into the minds of the recently-deceased. Today's move follows Freeform's recent strategy shift to focus more on "becomers" - or young adults experiencing new life changes.
The series had its best performance during its freshman year, where it averaged roughly 900,000 viewers. While its numbers dipped in Season 2, it still ranked as the Disney-owned network's second-highest rated new series over two seasons among adults 18-49, behind only Shadowhunters. But with the the shift in programming and its numbers not picking up, the cancellation is really not much of a surprise.

'Vikings' Renewed For Season 6

By Midnight, in Renewals,

The History drama earns an early pickup.
History announced today that Vikings has been renewed for a sixth season. The pickup comes as no surprise, as the veteran drama remains one of the cable network's strongest originals.
In its fourth season, which concluded earlier this year, the series averaged 7.8 million viewers per episode across all delivery platforms. It also held its spot as one of ad-supported cable's Top 5 dramas, with strong viewership in key demographics.
Inspired by the epic sagas about the trading and exploring Norsemen of early medieval Scandinavia, the Irish/Canadian co-production focuses on legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lodbrok, who was known for raiding France and England with his longships, and eventually becoming the king of Denmark and Sweden.
Today's good news comes over 2 months in advance of the Season 5 premiere, which is scheduled for November 29. Like Season 4, Seasons 5 and 6 of Vikings will both be comprised of 20 episodes apiece.
Production on Season 6 will kick off this fall in Ireland, with a likely premiere not until late 2018 or early 2019.

Midnight
No Season 2 for the grindhouse drama.
It's one and done for Blood Drive. After tonight's first-season finale, show creator James Roland broke the news that Syfy is cutting the grindhouse-style drama's run short, cancelling the series after its first 13 episodes.
Roland posted a blog entry on midnightgrindhouse.com to let fans know that tonight would be the final episode, expressing sadness that his vision for Season 2 might never be realized. He remained optimistic, though, that NBC Universal might find a new home for the series.
Set in a dystopian future of 1999 Los Angeles where crime is commonplace, Blood Drive follows the city's last good cop who runs afoul of the dirtiest underground car rally in the world. Its a race where the master of ceremonies is a vaudevillian nightmare, the cars run on human blood, and the drivers are homicidal deviants. His only chance to survive is to partner up with a dangerous femme fatale on the twisted cross-country death race.

The veteran comedy will sign off in 2018.
HBO confirmed today that Veep will be coming to an end after its already-announced seventh season. The news of the long-running comedy's planned conclusion had been speculated in recent months after the original cast members signed contract extensions of just one year in length back in May.
Veep stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, who after becoming the Vice President of the United States, soon discovers that there is a lot more to the job than she ever thought possible. For the past five years the series has been one of the strongest entries on cable network, racking up consistently-healthy viewership numbers and garnering widespread critical acclaim including picking up 12 Emmy Award wins along the way.

Midnight
The sci-fi drama will end after Season 5.
Ahead of tonight's third-season finale of Killjoys, Syfy has announced that the space drama has been renewed for seasons 4 and 5. There is a caveat though, and it is that those two seasons will act as final chapters to end the series.
The Canadian-based show, which follows interplanetary bounty hunters chasing fugitives throughout a distant planetary system on the brink of a bloody class war, will have a total of 20 more episodes before it signs off for good. The advanced notice gives producers a chance to end the story on their own terms, which is always preferable to facing a sudden cancellation.
Look for Season 4 of Killjoys to premiere in 2018, with the fifth and final season on target for 2019.
