The fashion industry is the biggest polluter of our planet nextto oil, so for the first time on The Great British SewingBee, it is Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Week, with all thefabric in the haberdashery replaced with charity shop clothesand soft-furnishings. To breathe new life into this oldfabric, host Joe Lycett kicks the six remaining home sewersoff with a pattern for a *****-bow blouse, which must bepieced together from four second-hand garments. This time, judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young are not only looking forprecision sewing, but also the ability to design and creategarments using attractive colour combinations. In a twist to theusual transformation challenge, the sewers are faced with allthe scraps and off-cuts collected throughout their journey onthe Sewing Bee so far. Together, they collectively pool theirleftover fabric to create stunning and inventive new patchworkgarments. Finally the sewers come armed with discarded curtainsand soft furnishings from home, challenged to create a made toa measure day dress, perfectly fitted to their model. JulieAndrews hasn't got a patch on this bunch as they set to work ontheir brocade, net curtains and blinds, before one person isawarded Garment of the Week and the fifth sewer is asked toleave the Sewing Bee.
